Presque Isle, ME – The UMPI Owls men's soccer team hosted their first home match of the year, vs Fisher College Falcons. The Falcons came away with the win, despite some impressive goal scoring by the Owls. This Brings the Owls to 0-3 on the season and 0-1 in the North Atlantic Conference.
The Falcons being the aggressors early, scoring a goal in the 14-minute mark and the 18th minute, giving them an early 2-0 lead. Diego Vega (Chicago, IL) answered for UMPI with a goal in the 27th minute, assisted by Nyden Reed (Roque Bluffs, ME), cutting the lead in half. With Fisher controlling the ball for the majority of the last 15 minutes of the half, they were able to put another goal in the back of the net to give them a 3-1 lead going into halftime.
This time Nyden Reed answered, giving the Owls their second goal of the game and cutting the lead back to just one. The Falcons quickly answered with another set of back-to-back goals in the 55th and the 57th minute. Some back and forth on the pitch led to a break away for the Owls, as Vega scored another goal off a solo break away to give UMPI their third goal of the game and cutting the lead to two. The Owls efforts were not enough as the Falcons were able to secure the win.
Keith Mank (Raymond, ME) had an impressive night despite giving up five goals, Mank was able to record 18 saves on the game, as the Falcons recorded 23 shots on goal. Vega was able to put four shots on goal of his five shot attempts, scoring two of UMPI's goals. The Owls recorded seven shots on goal and nine shots on the game.
