Canton, NY – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls men's soccer team finished their weekend road trip in New York today in a match vs North Atlantic Conference opponent SUNY Canton.
Keith Mank (Fy. Raymond, ME) played well early with six saves in the first half, three coming in the first 15 minutes of the match. The Roos really pressured UMPI early with ten shots in the first half, all seven on goal were saved, compared to the Owls zero shots. Canton came out of halftime with the same offensive pressure but this time a better result with a coach just 19 seconds in the half.
The Owls would answer with some offense of their own, Hunter Wardwell (Fy. Mars Hill, ME) came up with the goal, his sixth goal on the season at the 63rd minute. Dakota Patterson (So. Burnham, ME) received the assist. With the score now tied, Canton continued to maintain possession of the ball for the majority of the remaining minutes of the game, before scoring in the 87th minute.
Canton finished the match with 23 shots to UMPI's four. Mank finished with 14 saves on the game. UMPI moves to 6-6 on the regular season and 1-5 in the NAC. Canton improves to 6-6-2 and 4-3 in the NAC.
The Owls will head home to host non-conference opponent Fisher College, Sunday the 20th at noon.
