Presque Isle, ME – Men's Soccer comes away with their first North Atlantic Conference win of the year. The Owls beat Northern Vermont University – Lyndon on Homecoming weekend, 4-2. Led by striker Hunter Wardwell (Fy. Mars Hill, ME), with two goals and an assist on the day.
Wardwell's first goal came off an assist from Jacob Worthley (Jr. Houlton, ME) in the 13th minute, as the Owls took the early lead. A back and forth battle by both teams throughout the first half ended with Wardwell's second goal just before the half.
The Hornets came out strong in the second half with an early goal by Sam Ognenoff, one of his two for NVU – Lyndon. Captain Chad Bartlett (Sr. Bradley, ME) answered right back for the Owls with a left footed shot that he put in the back of the net. Wardwell with the assist. Just three minutes later, Nathaniel Stone (Fy. Perth-Andouer, NB) added to the scoring frenzy with a goal in the 65th minute. Defender Paul Kaplan (Jr. Embden, ME) earned the assist, giving UMPI a 4-1 lead.
Keith Mank (Fy. Raymond, ME) was in goal for the Owls for the 90-minutes, ending with three saves and the win.
UMPI will have their Alumni game tomorrow, Sunday the 29th at 10:00am to finish off their Homecoming weekend. After that the Owls will head to Vermont to take on NVU – Johnson in a NAC match up, next weekend.
