Presque Isle, ME – The Owls took on U-Maine System opponent in their second home game of the weekend. The men beat U-Maine Machias 1-0 on a late goal by Striker Andre Rossignol (So. Van Buren, ME).
The physical game was in the Owls hands early on as they had possession of the ball throughout most of the first half. UMPI ended the first half with 15 shots and nine on goal, while holding the Clippers to only one shot. The Owls had three shots in the first half hit the goal post, while the Clippers goalie Eilas Reyes kept the Owls scoreless with nine saves in the first half.
The Owls continued to hold the Clippers off on the defensive end only allowing five shots on goal throughout the match, all saved by Keith Mank (Fy. Raymond, ME). UMPI also kept their foot on the gas on the offensive end, with 14 more shots in the second half, six on goal.
With just over six minutes left in the match, a foul was awarded to the Owls 20 yards out. Rossignol took the free kick for the Owls and put it in the back of the net, giving UMPI the late 1-0 advantage. The Owls defense held up late in the game, giving them their first home victory on the year.
UMPI will stay at home this weekend, playing NAC opponent Thomas College on Saturday 21st at 1:00pm.
