Presque Isle, ME - For 42 minutes of the opening half the University of Maine-Presque Isle Owls gave #1 Thomas College all they could handle, playing the Terriers to a stalemate. However, in the final 3 minutes of the half, Thomas was able to strike quickly with 2 goals to change the momentum going into intermission.
Senior defender DJ Nichols was able to break free and beat UMPI goaltender Caleb Thompson to give the Terriers a 1 to 0 lead at the 42:00 mark. Thomas scored again just over a minute later when Junior forward Josh Morrissey of Scarborough, Maine netted the second goal on an assist from Princiel Kunieki.
UMPI had very few offensive opportunities as Thomas College controlled time of possession but the Owls played aggressively and defended well for most of the first half. UMPI continued to battle against a Thomas team that showed great speed and an outstanding passing game until the Terriers Jahzardaee Samuels knocked home a Penalty Kick to put the game out of reach at 3 to 0.
Owls keeper Caleb Thompson (So. Washburn, ME) faced 13 Terrier shots turning away 10 of them while Thomas goalie Jonathan Dutka did not need to make an official save.
Next up: UMPI will Host Unity College tomorrow at Park Family Field at 2:00PM.
