Lyndonville, VT – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Men's Soccer Team (3-5, 0-2) faced off against Northern Vermont-Lyndon (1-6, 1-1) Saturday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference match-up. The Owls came back in the latter part of the second half to cut a 4 to 0 Hornets lead to 4 to 3 but could not knock home the game-tying goal.
Senior forward Hunter Torrey of the Hornets scored 2 of his 3 goals in the 1st half, scoring on a penalty kick at the 13:30 mark and talllying a 2nd goal at the 27:53 mark assisted by Dawson Stebbins. Stebbins drilled a shot into the lower right corner of the net to close out the half with Lyndon leading 3 to 0.
Five minutes into then 2nd half, Torrey completed his hat-trick controlling a rebound off Owls goalie Caleb Thompson and putting it in the net for a 4 to 0 Hornets lead.
The Owls mounted the start of their comeback just two minutes later when Chris Udobi (So. Delta, Nigeria) put his team on the scoreboard assisted by Lucas Husser (So. Saco, ME). At the 68:13 mark midfielder Jacob Worthley (So. Houlton, ME) punched a rebound into the left corner of the net. Two minutes later Andre Rossignol (Fr. Van Buren, ME) scored the Owls 3rd goal on an indirect kick that was assisted by Udobi.
UMPI Keeper Caleb Thompson (So. Wasburn, ME) turned back 11 shots on goal while Caleb Derbyshire recorded 10 saves for Northern Vermont-Lyndon.
Next up: UMPI returns to action tomorrow Sunday September 23rd, traveling back to Maine to take on the UMaine-Machias Clippers at 3:00PM.
