Unity, ME - The UMPI Men's Soccer Team dropped a 3 to 1 decision to the Unity Rams on Sunday afternoon. The Owls (3-4) had a difficult time trying to get much offense going throughout the game, only recording six shots on goal while the Rams (2-2) put 11 shots on net.
Unity went up 1 to 0 with the first goal at the 18:00 mark when senior Kaleb Schaner scored on a pass from Francesco Guerrero. Two minutes later the Owls quickly tied the game 1 to 1 on an unassisted goal by Chad Bartlett (Jr. Bradley, ME). The Rams were able to knock home what proved to be the game winner at the 35:00 minute mark off the foot of junior Francesco Guerrero and assisted by Drew Lindner for a 2 to 1 Unity College lead going into halftime.
Unity would tack on another goal in the second half at the 73:00 minute mark on an unassisted goal by Cyrus Beyer resulting in what would be the final score of 3 to 1.
Goal Keeper Caleb Thompson (So. Washburn, ME) recorded 8 saves on 11 shots for UMPI while Unity net-minder Sam Napper had 5 saves on 6 Owl attempts on goal.
Next up: UMaine-Presque Isle takes to the road again next weekend with their 2nd North Atlantic Conference match at Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on Saturday September 22nd at 3:30PM. UMPI will then travel back to The University of Maine at Machias for a Sunday afternoon game at 3:00PM
