Owls Drop First NAC Game to NV-Johnson

Johnson Vt. - Five Badgers scored to lead the Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's soccer team past the visiting University of Maine Presque Isle Owls on Saturday afternoon at Minaert Field. The Badgers were impressive in the North Atlantic Conference opener for both squads, winning the contest by a score of 7-0.

The loss leaves the Owls with a record of (3-3, 0-1) while NVU-Johnson improves to (5-1, 1-0) in the North Atlantic Conference.

In the 1st half the Badgers opened the scoring in the 18th minute as Freshman Arthur Clayton found the back of the net. The goal was assisted by Elliott Hanna. NV-Johnson didn't waste any time as they scored their second goal in the 22nd minute. The unassisted goal was scored by Rob Buonanno. Elliot Hanna finished the half with the third goal of the game off an assist by freshman Nathan Gomez.

In the 2nd half the Home Team continued their offensive attack as Hanna connected for his second goal of the contest in the 47th minute. 11 minutes later, sophomore Jarod Croteau powered in his first goal of the season. The Badgers added two more goals to take home a 7-0 win over the Owls.

In the net Ryan Willette and Abdi Ali Mohamed both saw time for Northern Vermont-Johnson. UMaine-Presque Isle's Keeper Caleb Thompson (So. Washburn, ME) recorded nine saves on 16 attempts by the Badgers.

Next up for the UMPI Owls is a 1:00PM game at Unity College on Sunday September 16th.
