Presque Isle – The University of Maine at Presque Isle men's soccer team (2-1) upended the UMM Clippers (0-2) by a 3 to 1 score at Park Family Field on Wednesday afternoon.
The Owls and Clippers played to a scoreless tie after 45 minutes of action in a physical battle. UMPI finished the 1st half with 10 shot attempts as Dominic Kane of UMM recorded 8 saves in goal. The Owls were solid on defense only allowing 2 shots on goal.
UMaine-Machias got on the scoreboard first when Alvaro Saldana knocked home a shot three minutes into the 2nd half for a 1 to 0 Clippers lead. 13 minutes later Andre Rossignol (Fr. Van Buren, ME) would deadlock the game with the 1st of his three goals for the Owls. Rossignol was assisted on the score by Stephen Cochrane (Fr. Deer Isle, ME).
Rossignol scored again just a minute later to give UMPI its first lead of the game and he would reach the hat-trick by blasting in his 3rd goal of the day on a penalty kick at the 77:28 mark.
Goalie Caleb Thompson (So. Washburn, ME) had 5 saves for the Owls and Machias Keeper Dominic Kane stopped 13 shots.
The UMPI Owls next travel to Fisher College September 8th for a 1:00PM game and then to Hampshire College on September 9th for 10:00AM match.
