Poultney, VT - The University of Maine at Presque Isle Men's Soccer team dropped a tough 2018 season openr at Green Mountain College on Saturday
afternoon 2 to 1.
Joe Grubb of Green Mountain (1-0) scored the first goal of the game off a rebound at the 29:20 mark of the opening half to put the Eagles up 1 to 0. Cameron Book netted the second goal for Green Mountain at the 34:34 mark of the first half to up the lead to 2 to 0. John Waddington and Jordan Johnson assisted on the goal off a throw in.
The Owls (0-1) responded at the 48:55 mark of the second half on a crafty goal struck from the left side of the six-yard box just over the outstretched arms of the Eagles' goalkeeper by Dakota Patterson (Fr. Burnham, ME), assisted by Chris Udobi (So. Delta, Nigeria) to get within a goal. UMPI continued to dominate play and held the edge in time of posssession down the stretch however, they were not able to knock in the equalizer.
Caleb Thompson (So. Washburn, ME) had 6 saves in goal for the Owls while Levy Sawyer stopped 4 shots for the Eagles.
The UMPI Men's Soccer team has a quick turna around with a 12:; game at Vermont Tech on Sunday.
