Owls Fall in Double OT

SOUTH PORTLAND, ME – A late score by Southern Maine Community College (4-7-2) would force overtime on Sunday.  The University of Maine at Presque Isle (4-11) would end up surrendering a goal in the second overtime period and fall by a score of 2-1.

The Owls would have the advantage in the first half, taking eight shots to the Seawolves five.  Chad Bartlett (SO, Bradley, ME) would score his second goal in as many days, connecting on a free kick that deflected off the keeper's hand.  The Owls would hold that one goal lead into the half.

The Seawolves would make some halftime adjustments and turn up their pressure on UMPI.  SMCC would outshoot their guests 15-3 in the half.  Despite the constant barrage of shots, Matt Manter (SR, Caribou, ME) would hold strong for most of the half, collecting 17 saves in the contest.  It wasn't until the 82nd minute that the Seawolves would find the net, with Ryan Forkey (SO, Derry, NH) scoring an unassisted goal.

Both teams would have opportunities to end it in the first overtime period, but neither would connect.  In the 105th minute Senai Yenie (SR, Portland, ME) would drive home the goal that would seal the deal, giving SMCC the 2-1 victory at home.

The Owls will conclude their regular season schedule on Tuesday.  They will travel to Fort Kent to meet up with the Bengals for a 3 pm matchup.
