BOSTON, MA – Despite almost doubling their opponent's shots, the Owls (3-9) would be shutout on the road, dropping a 2-0 decision to Wheelock College (1-10) on Sunday.
The Owls would take 25 shots in the afternoon, 13 on goal, and come up empty. Wheelock on the other hand took a total of 14 shots, eight of them on goal, but would get on the board in the 39th minute. Pasulayman Sowe (FR, Lynn, MA) would get an assist from Sam Murray (SO, Boston, MA) and the Wildcats would take the early lead.
The Owls would get some opportunities early in the second half, but Jordan Bernard (SR, Westbrook, CT) was up to the challenge, making an athletic play on two consecutive saves to turn away UMPI. Murray would capitalize on cross pass and put a ball just past the diving Owls keeper to score the second goal of the game in the 74th minute. The Owls last ditch effort was turned away, keeping UMPI scoreless on the afternoon.
Matt Manter (SR, Caribou, ME) would rack up six saves. The Wildcats would earn their first victory of program history, behind Bernard's 13 saves.
The Owls travel to Machias on Wednesday afternoon for a 4 pm matchup. The game is a rematch from earlier this season when UMPI came out on top of a 3-1 decision.
