PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The UMPI Owls (2-5) were able to hang tough with the University of Maine at Farmington Beavers (4-3) on Saturday afternoon, but two late goals would seal the 3-0 victory for the visiting UMF club.
Despite the Beavers racking up 18 shots in the game compared to the Owls' four, the majority of the first half went scoreless. Ethan Stufoso (SR, South Portland, ME) would finally break the tie in the 43rd minute with an unassisted goal, sending the game to the half with UMF leading 1-0.
The Owls would continue to find a way to keep the game tight. Nick Marshall (SO, Portsmouth, RI) would score in with just over 16 minutes remaining in the game for the Beavers' second score, and William Heimlich would put the game out of reach with a goal in the 86th minute.
After winning two of three home games, the Owls will hit the road again. On Saturday, September 30th they will take on Becker College at 11 am, and then go to Fisher College for a rematch from a game earlier this year. On September 17th UMPI got their first win of the season against Fisher by a score of 1-0. That game will start at 1 pm.
