LYNDONVILLE, VT – The UMPI Men's Soccer team (0-3) was unable to score a goal for the third time this season, dropping a 4-0 decision to the Lyndon State Hornets.
Lyndon State dominated possession, recording 26 shots compared to the Owls' nine. Abukar Hassan (JR, Kenya) was able to get the host team scoring started in the 22nd minute off of a penalty kick. In the 40th minute a UMPI handball in the box would give the Hornets another penalty kick which resulted in a goal, giving Lyndon State a 2-0 lead at the half.
The two teams played to a stalemate for the majority of the second half. It seemed as though the Owls would catch a break, as a red card would force the Hornets to play a man down for the final 13 minutes. Lyndon State would find a way to keep the pressure on, however, and tack on two insurance scores in the final six minutes of play.
Matt Manter (SR, Caribou, ME) would be credited with 11 saves in the game.
The Owls travel to Unity College (0-2) on Friday for an afternoon showdown with the Rams. That game will start at 3 pm. UMPI then makes its 2017 home debut on Sunday, when they host Fisher College (0-2) at 2 pm.
