AMHERST, MA – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Men's Soccer Team (4-9-1) would enjoy a comfortable lead for much of the afternoon as they would go on to defeat Hampshire College by a score of 6-2.
Cody Blair (SO, Ashland, ME) would get an assist from Derek Healy (SR, Hanover, MA) to get the scoring in the third minute. From there a pair of Owls would get their first goals of the season. In the 16th minute Dean Costello (SR, Glenwood, NY) would find the net on an unassisted goal. Dan Swallow (SR, Houlton, ME) would knock in his first goal of the year in the 39th minute, to put the Owls up by three. Hampshire would finally get on the board just before half, and the two teams would go to intermission with UMPI leading 3-1.
Hampshire would make it interesting by finding the net in the 55th minute, but Blair would score his second goal of the game in the 69th minute to give the Owls some breathing room. Healy would add more insurance, scoring goals in the 71st and 74th minute. Matthew Manter (JR, Caribou, ME) would help seal the win for the Owls as he would collect 11 saves and keep Hampshire off the board for the remainder of the second half. The Owls would go on to a 6-2 victory.
Blair's two goals would be accompanied by one assist. Healy would get two assists to go along with his two goals.
The Owls will travel to Boston to take on Fisher College on Sunday. That game is scheduled for 3 PM.
