Lyndon Center, VT — In a back & forth contest at the Lyndon Athletics Field, Vermont Tech and University of Maine at Presque Isle men's soccer teams played to 3-3 double-overtime tie in the first round of the Lyndon Kick-Off Tournament Saturday afternoon.
The Owls jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 4:13mark when Zach Veayo punched a Joshua Allen pass into the right side of the net past Green Knights' goalkeeper Darian Calverley. The Owls managed to hold the lead into halftime, before Jordan Beauchemin tied the score at 53:52 when Oliver Durand shot's deflected off him and into the UMPI net.
Presque Isle regained the lead less than three minutes later on a Chris Daly tally-assisted by Veayo, but VTC manage to knot the score at 2-2 on Kevin Arias' goal with less than 20 minutes to play.
The Owls would take the lead for a third time when Seth Cote fed Allen for a goal in the final 10 minutes, but the Green Knight, behind Beauchemin's second goal of the game, tied the score at 3-3 sending the contest into two 10-minute sudden-death overtime periods.
Both squads had a number of opportunities come their way in the extra sessions, but Caverley and Owl netminder Caleb Bragg-Grady managed to keep the opposition at bay.
Vermont Tech held an 18-13 advantage in shots-on-goal and the squads were deadlocked in corner kicks with five each.
Vermont Tech will face Southern Vermont tomorrow in the second round of the Lyndon Kick-Off Tournament. Game time is 2:30 p.m.
