HEALY NAMED DIII INDEPENDENT STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

The Association of Division III Independents has named University of Maine-Presque Isle men's soccer forward Derek Healy its Male Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of September.

 Healy, a sophomore from Hanover, Massachusetts, is his team's leading scorer with 13 goals through 12 games played. He currently ranks 11th nationally in the USCAA in goal scoring.

The forward has had a flair for the dramatic as he has scored the game-winning or go-ahead goal in four of the Owls victories this season.

The Association of Division III Independents Player of the Week for the week ending September 22nd, Healy had two goals including the game winner in overtime against Green Mountain College. Healy broke through with an impressive six goals and one assist against Fisher College on September 28th and followed that up the very next day against Fisher with another two goals.

On the month, the sophomore forward had 12 goals, 3 assists and 37 shots on goal good for a .324 shooting percentage.

The Association of Division III Independents consists of 10 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition.  The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis.
