Blue & Gold Get First Win

Presque Isle, Maine - The visiting St. Thomas (NB) Tommies showed no signs of being road weary from   their trip to the U.S. as they immediately came out and displayed an aggressive brand of attacking soccer.  Tommies back Guillermo Bergeron (Moncton, NB) put home an unassisted boot just 3:05 into the match.

The Owls would even the score at 31:57 as freshmen Nick Whitehead (Limestone, ME) headed a crossing pass from Erik Gumaer (Windham, ME) into the back of the net.

After the Whitehead goal that notched the score at 1-1, the teams would exchange spurts of momentum for more than 50 minutes of spirited action that saw 4 yellow cards issued for the match.  With 5:34 remaining, Derek Healy (Windham, ME) punched a strong kick past the Tommies keeper to score the eventual game winning goal.  Marc Reynolds (Windham, ME), adding to the solid play of the UMPI freshmen, assisted on the game winning goal.

UMPI (1-1) next visits Northern Maine Community College on Tuesday, September 3 at 7pm and plays Saint Joseph'e (ME) at home, Saturday, September 7 at 1pm.
