(CONCORD, NH) -- New Hampshire Technical Institute took all it could handle from an under-manned, but very game UMaine-Presque Isle's men's soccer team on Sunday before ultimately defeating the Owls, 3-0.
NHTI (10-0) remained undefeated on the season and in first place in the USCAA's Yankee Conference. The Lynx clung to a 1-0 lead that they took 10 minutes into the contest for the majority of the game, fending off a handful of really strong UMPI scoring opportunities. Then in the 75th and 77th minutes, goals by Jonathan Carlisle and Chris Pacanza put the match out of reach.
For the Owls (5-6) it was the end of a "5-matches-in-8-days" stretch. The strain of that much play in a one week span was apparent. Leading scorers Joel Massa (So./Millbury, MA) and Kobe Ashkir (So./Portland, ME) both missed Sunday's action, among others. Additionally, starters Will Cole (Sr./Truro, NS) and Brandon Caverhill (So./Caribou, ME) were unable to log time on the pitch in the 2nd half.
The Owls get the week to hopefully heal has it prepares for another pair of road tests the first weekend of October. On Saturday, October 7th, Presque Isle will travel to Eastern Maine Community College. Start time is set for 1pm. Then on Sunday the Owls will turn around and play Maine Maritime Academy at 2pm.
