(PRESQUE ISLE, ME) -- Brandon Caverhill (So./Caribou, ME) scored the first two goals of the game and the University of Maine-Presque Isle men's soccer team never looked back in defeating Fisher College, 10-0. The win improves UMPI's record to 4-2.
A deceptive calm descended upon Park Family Field just before the Homecoming matchup on Saturday. No sooner had the contest started than the skies opened up and the Owls started scoring. Caverhill's first goal came four minutes in.
While the downpours were intermittent thoughout the game, the Owls' scoring was constant. Already up 2-0, UMPI scored in the 20th, 22nd, 26th, and 28th minutes, to take a 6-0 lead into halftime.
UMPI was able to spread the wealth with 9 different players scoring goals including Matt Vick's (So./Van Buren, ME) first college goal. Joel Massa (So./Millbury, MA) continued his hot start to the season, scoring his team-high 6th goal to start the 2nd half.
The Falcons' (0-5) goalkeeper Steven Masterson was busy facing 29 shots and saving 19. Fisher played the game with only 7 eligible players as both teams played with less than 11 in the 2nd half.
UMPI, ranked #14 in the latest USCAA Coaches' Poll, will take the week off from competition before returning to action next weekend with a pair games in New York. Saturday, September 22nd, the Owls will be in Canton, NY to take on SUNY-Canton. Then on Sunday, they will stop off in Brighton, NY to face Paul Smith's College.
