(PRESQUE ISLE, ME) -- University of Maine-Machias men's soccer starter Tyler Troup scored two goals and assisted in another in the first half against host UMaine-Presque Isle to help send his Clippers to a 5-2 win on Wednesday afternoon. Troup would go on to add 2 more goals in the 2nd half and finish with four.
Troup gave Machias (3-2) the lead early scoring less than 3 minutes into the contest. UMPI would tie it up at 10:49 with Joel Massa's (So./Millbury, MA) 5th goal of the season. Troup then gave UMM the lead back at 23:31 and a Stefan Zalucky goal gave the Clippers a 3-1 advantage at the half.
The Owls (3-2) scored first in the 2nd off the foot of Chad Caverhill (Fr./Caribou, ME) to pull to within 3-2 with just over 30 minutes remaining. It was Caverhill's first goal at the college level.
However UMPI had no answer for Troup as his third goal scored at 24:16 gave the Clippers back their two goal lead. He would finish off his monster afternoon with one more tally at 9:01 to give the Clips their final lead, 5-2.
"The guys played with alot of heart and hard work against a quality team," said Owls; coach Alan Gordon.
The match pitted two teams that were ranked in the latest USCAA Coaches' Poll. Machias came in at #13 when the season's first list was released. UMPI ranked #4.
UMPI will look to get back on the winning track this Saturday, September 15th, for Homecoming when they take on Fisher College at 12pm.
