Presque Isle, ME (10-9-11) – Last weekend, the University of Maine-Presque Isle Men's Soccer team lost a pair of contests to SUNY-Canton. The Owls missed their shot at revenge on their home turf Sunday as the Roos edged UMPI, 2-0 at Park Family Field in Presque Isle.
For one half, the teams played dead even going into the break deadlocked at 0-0. Over 35 minutes of the 2nd half was played in the same way, teams scrapping for any advantage they could get with shots for either team coming at a premium and neither able to break through. It was the Roos that finally scored at 9:48, when freshman Abdulai Jagana broke free at midfield and beat UMPI keeper Rich Felbaum (Sr./Saco, ME) to give Canton the 1-0 edge.
Moments later it was Jagana sending a corner kick to the goal that was sent home by Francesco Cardillo to build the Roos lead to 2-0.
UMPI fell to 3-8 on the season while SUNY-Canton improves to 9-6-2.
Today's game was the last home match for UMPI this season. It was Senior Day, as the Owls honored three seniors, Richard Felbaum (Sr./Saco, ME), Craig Maffei (Sr./Readfield, ME), and Hanad Ashkir (Sr./Fairfax, VA) were all honored for their contributions to the program. They will next play at Thomas College on Sunday October 16th. Action from Waterville, ME is set to begin at 3:00pm.
