Junior DJ Conley (South Portland, ME) shot a 10 over par 80 on a tough Castine Country Club Golf Course to finish 3rd overall and lead the UMPI Golf team to a second place finish at the Maine Maritime Academy Cup Championship. The third place finish is Conley's top Individual finish this season and this marks the fourth time in five matches the Blue & Gold have finished in either first or second place.
Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) won the team championship, shooting a 323 and MMA sophomore Kevin Peppin won the individual championship with a career best 5-over, 75.
The Owls finished 8 back of MMA on their home course, with a 331, while Eastern Maine Community College finished third shooting a combined 344. Thomas College 348, Maine Maritime (second entry) 357 and UM-Machias 416 rounded out the team scoring for the event.
Mike Balmer (New Smyrna Beach) and Reynold Brown (Essex, CT) wrapped up 5th and 6th place, shooting 81 and 82 respectively. Jordan Beavlier (Ashland, ME) had an 88 to take 13th overall and Hazen Dauphine (Bradley, ME) shot a 95 on the day.
Head Coach Dan Hotham will next take the Owls to the Husson University Invitational, a two day event this weekend, September 21 and 22.
