Senior Mike Balmer (New Smyrna Beach, FL) registered three top-5 finishes this past weekend, including winning the EMCC Invitational individual championship on Saturday. For his outstanding play, the USCAA awarded Balmer the National Golfer of the Week for the period ending September 8.
Balmer led the UMPI foursome to a team Championship at the EMCC Invitational, shooting a one under-par 71. The seniors strong play, including an individual 2nd place finish at the UMPI Invitational anchored a great weekend that saw the Blue & Gold add two 2nd place finishes to their team championship win at the EMCC Invitational.
Owl Head Coach Dan Hotham has been incredibly pleased with the seniors maturity and shot making ability, "Mike just takes the game one shot at a time. He has the ability to block out the previous hole played, good or bad, and focus on the hole he is about to play"
"Additionally, whether he is playing good or bad, Mike is a gentlemen. I am very proud of him and there is no one more deserving", added Hotham.
UMPI next travels to Bangor this weekend to participate in the Maine Intercollegiate Tournament, a two day affair that will test the Blue & Gold against the best collegiate golfers in Maine.
