(MACHIAS, ME) -- For the UMPI men's golf team, the weekend started with a record-setting win at their own UMPI Invitational on Friday. After a strong 3rd place showing Saturday at Colby College, the Owls once again came out victorious on Sunday, winning the UMaine-Machias Invitational.
Led by Reynold Brown (So./Essex, CT), who paced all golfers Sunday with a score of 71, the Owls team carded a 303, 27 seven strokes better than second place UMaine-Augusta (330). At Friday's home event, UMPI finished 33 strokes better than 2nd place finisher, Maine Maritime Academy.
At Machias, Eastern Maine Community College finished one behind UMA (331). The host Clippers rounded out the scoring with 344.
In additon to Brown's first place individual finish, teammates Allen Conner (So./Stonington, ME) and Mike Balmer (Sr./New Smyrna Beach, FL) finished in 3rd and 4th places respectively. Conner shot a 73 while Balmer came in with a 77.
UMPI will look to continue with their hot hands on Thursday at the UMaine-Farmington Invite.
