(PRESQUE ISLE, ME) -- The University of Maine-Presque Isle men's golf team had home course advantage Friday, hosting the UMPI Invitational at Presque Isle Country Club. The Owls played ungracious hosts to Maine Maritime Acadmy, Eastern Maine Community College, and UMaine-Machias as they posted a school record team score of 294 to win the event by 33 strokes.
"Today was a great day for UMPI golf," said Owls' head coach Dan Hotham, "I am very proud of our team today as they all played exceptionally well. It was a great tournament to build on as we look to hopefully qualify all five of our guys for the (USCAA) national tournament."
By comparison, last year the Owls took their own invitational with a team score of 326. Reynold Brown (So./Essex, CT), who was a medalist in this event a year ago with a score of 77, once again medaled on Friday this time with a two-under 70.
Anthony Batchelder (Sr./West Enfield, ME) gave UMPI the top two finishers by carding a one-under 71. The Owls placed four golfers in the top five.
UMPI will look to take Friday's momentum on the road this weekend as they travel to compete in the Colby Invitational on Friday and the UMaine-Machias Invite on Sunday.
