Presque Isle, ME – The Owls hosted North Atlantic Conference cross-divisional opponent Cazenovia College Wildcats, eventually winning the match up in a back and forth game, final score 80-74. Despite recent illnesses, the Owls were down two players including a starter, as they were still able to come away with the victory against the tough opponent in the Wildcats.
With ten ties and nine lead changes in just the first half, it was apparent that this would be a battle for the full 40 minutes. The teams stayed close in the first as no team lead more than five points at any time. Dany Harris (Danbury, CT) led the Owls at half with 12 points off 50% shooting in the first 20 minutes, including three offensive rebounds and two steals. The Owls drew first, with a free throw just six second into the half to give them a one-point lead, and the Owls never let that lead go. UMPI maintained their lead throughout the second half, the Wildcats stayed close as they the lead never went to double digits. A couple clutch free throws late by Harris and Griffin Guerrette (Presque Isle, ME) put the game away late.
Harris continued to fill up the stat line in the second half, finishing the game with 23 points, nine rebounds, five of which were offensive, and four steals. Guerrette also filled up the stat sheet with 17 points including a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line, adding four rebounds and four steals. The Owls team win is proven in the box score as all nine of the Owls players scored.
The Owls will host SUNY Poly in another cross-divisional game to close out the weekend. Tip off at 12:00PM.
