Johnson, VT – The Owls bounce back after yesterday's loss vs NVU-Johnson, beating the Badgers in a thrilling overtime victory 89-86. Senior Captain Griffin Guerrette (Presque Isle, ME) scored his 1,000th career point, while leading the Owls to the win with his team high 23 points.
The Owls found themselves up early, as they led by five points going into halftime. Guerrette finishing the first 20-minutes of the game with 15 points off 5-9 shooting and 3-5 from three in just the first half. The Badgers bounced back in the second half with their size down low, causing the Owls key players to get into foul trouble. The teams headed into overtime each missing a key starter with foul trouble. The Owls defense was able to hold the Badgers to 28% shooting in the final five minutes, while they shot 3-4 from the field and made 5-8 of the free throws. Including some clutch late free throws by Kj Minter (Elkton, MD) and Glen Jones (Stamford, CT).
Guerrette finished the night shooting 7-17 from the field, 5-8 from the three and a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line, also adding seven rebound and three assists to his stat line as he finished with 23 points. Gilbert Jean Mendez (Clearwater, FL) finished the game with an impressive 22 points, 15 of which came in the second half. Shooting 7-12 from the field and a perfect 2-2 from the three point line, also adding nine rebounds. Minter finished with yet another near double-double, finishing with 15 points off 5-11 shooting and nine rebounds.
The Owls head back to Presque Isle as they look to host two cross divisional North Atlantic Conference opponents this coming weekend.
