Presque Isle, ME – Owls men's basketball finish their last fall weekend 2-0 after a win vs Fisher College Falcons, with an 81-78 win. After a rough start the Owls picked up their defense only allowing 30 second half points.
A back and forth game early, with a high scoring half the Owls and Falcons found themselves battling in a game of runs. It was the Falcons that made their run first with a quick 8-0 run, although the Owls bounced right back to bring the game back to a tie. Going into the half with a high scoring 48-44 lead for the Falcons. The second half was just as the first, as the teams battled exchanging leads. The teams really picked up their defense late as there were many stretches of no scoring with the game still tied. The Owls found themselves down one with just under four minutes left, when Griffin Guerrette (Presque Isle, ME) hit a jumper to give the Owls the lead, a stop followed by a layup by KJ Minter (Elkton, MD), assisted by Guerrette, brought the Owls lead to three with three minutes to go. The Owls would then hold the Falcons scorless for the remaining three minutes of the game to close it out with the win.
Guerrette led all scorers with 21 points shooting 50% from the three to go along with ten rebounds, recording his first double-double of the year, also recording three assists and three steals. First Year player Kaison Lundy (Panama City, FL) finished with a career high 19 points on 9-11 shooting, including two monster blocks. Gilbert Jean Mendez (Clearwater, FL) filled up the stat line with 13 points on 50% shooting along with six rebounds and seven assists.
The Owls will take their winter break and head back to play in early January as they head right into North Atlantic Conference play vs Northern Vermont-Johnson on January 7 at 4:00PM in Johnsonville, VT.
