Owls Fall to Regis in Final Game of USM Tournament

Gorham, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle men's basketball team fell to Regis College 76-53 in the consolation game at the USM Invitational Tip-Off.

The Owls got off to a slow start finding themselves down 14-4 with 10:21 left in the first half. Over the next eight minutes UMPI would settle in and go on a 23-15 run cutting the Lion's lead to two. The Owls despite their slow start would enter halftime down 33-29 largely in part of great defensive play and the offensive shooting of Parker Onorato (Bath, ME) and Brice Lawrence (Largo, FL) who combined to score 23 of the Owls 29 points in the first half.

In the second half, UMPI couldn't overcome their unfortunate injuries to key players as Regis went on to outscore the Owls 43-24 in the second half in route to their 76-53 victory. The Owls finished the game with four players scoring in double figures. Onorato led the way with 15 points, eight rebounds, and three steals. Lawrence and Gilbert Jean Mendez (Clearwater, FL) each scored 11 points and Griffin Guerrette (Mapleton, ME) added 10.

The Owls next game is Saturday, November 20th where they will take on host Western New England University in the WNEU Invitational. On Sunday, November 21st the Owls will face either Bowdoin College or Wheaton College.
