The University of Maine at Presque Isle men's basketball team headed to Wesleyan college for the Herb Kenny Tip-Off Tournament. The Owls season opener started with a match up vs Clark University. UMPI's late game run would not be enough as Clark gave the Owls their first lose 80-70.
The Owls were down big early as they gave up 40 points in the first half while only scoring 27. UMPI would continue to fight in the second half. With the score 58-39, the Owls would go on a 13-4 run to cut the lead to 10 with 8:30 remaining in the game. Although, every run that the Owls had, Clark was able to answer.
UMPI was led by Shyquinn Dix (Jr. Stamford, CT), with 34 points off of 13-24 shooting and 6-13 from the three, while adding nine rebounds. Chris Brown (So. Post St. Lucie, FL) and Griffin Guerrette (So. Presque Isle, ME) both added 11 points. Clark was led by Tyler Davern with 36 points and 13 rebounds.
The 0-1 Owls look to bounce back with their second game of the Tournament in Silloway Gymnasium tomorrow the 16th vs Sage College.
