Presque Isle, ME - The University of Maine at Presque Isle Men's Basketball Team attained one of its major goals by qualifying for the North Atlantic Conference Tournament in it's inaugural season in the Conference. The Owls have been preparing the past two days for their Post-season play before traveling to #3 Seed SUNY Canton of New York for their 1:00 PM game tomorrow (Saturday) with the winner moving on to the NAC Final Four.
UMPI and SUNY Canton played twice during the regular season and both games were decided in the final minute of play, one of which was in overtime. SUNY won the 1st game 68 to 64 when Jordan Stewart connected on two free throws with 6 seconds remaining to secure the victory. Shyquinn Dix had a big night for the Owls in that game with 21 points and 10 rebounds. The Roos took the 2nd game over the Owls in a thrilling 78 to 75 overtime contest. Dix drained a 3 pointer with 5 seconds left in regulation to send the game into OT. A Te'Von Hines 3 pointer with 19 seconds left in the extra frame brought UMPI to within one point 76 to 75 and ME-Presque Isle would get another opportunity to take the lead but couldn't connect on a driving layup. Brandon Adkisson of SUNY then hit two foul shots to close out the game. Shyquinn Dix had another outstanding game with 34 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Hines added 11 points and 9 rebounds.
SUNY Canton finished the Regular Season with a 13-12 record and 9-5 in the NAC. UMPI finished at 11-14 and 5-9 in the North Atlantic Conference. The winner will take on Husson University in the Semi-finals.
