Presque Isle, ME - The University of Maine at Presque Isle Men's Basketball Team (9-11, 3-8 NAC) was looking to help secure a North Atlantic Conference playoff berth but the Thomas College Terriers came into town and left Presque Isle with an 82 to 71 road victory.
The Terriers got out to an early 5 to 0 advantage on a Justin Butler 3 pointer and a Jordan Goodson jumper. Shyquinn Dix (So. Stamford, CT) got the Owls on the scoreboard with two free throws and when Wil Griffiths (Jr. Queens, NY) scored twice inside, once on a feed from Griffin Guerrette, UMPI trailed 7 to 6. Me-Presque Isle grabbed their first lead 8 to 7 at the 15:01 mark on a Te'Von Hines drive and finish. Later in the first half, a made jumper by the Terriers Michael Gilman and a Butler layup, put Thomas up 24 to 15. A Luke Pertersen (So. Perth, Australia) 3 pointer and a Griffiths score inside closed out the 1st half scoring with Thomas up 35 to 27.
Dix hit a jumper to start the second half and Guerrette drained a 3 pointer and UMPI was within 37 to 34. Griffiths received a pass from Shyquinn Dix and scored on a jump hook to get the Owls to within 1 point. At the 10:13 mark Wil Griffiths hit 2 foul shots to push the Owls into the lead at 50 to 49 and a Quinn Mitchell made 3 pointer and Hines layup, increased the home team's lead 55 to 51. Thomas would take the lead back 59 to 57 on an Evan Aresenault 3 point jumper and the Owls were never able to regain the advantage.
Me-Presque was led by Wil Griffiths with 21 points and 6 rebounds while Shyquinn Dix and Griffin Guerrette (Fr. Presque Isle, ME) each scored 11 points, and Luke Petersen added 10. Dix pulled down 5 rebounds and dished out 8 assists.
Thomas received 19 points from Lovegeurson Fleurine, 17 each from Justin Butler and Evan Arsenault, and 12 points from Jordan Goodson. Fleurine also hauled in 8 boards.
