Lyndonville, VT - The University of Maine at Presque Isle Men's Basketball Team had an impressive offensive showing Friday evening as they rolled to a 95 to 74 victory over Northern Vermont-Lyndon in a North Atlantic Conference game played at the George W. Stannard Gymnasium.
The Hornets took an early 4-2 advantage on baskets from Rian Hayman-Jones and Jahleel Gabriel. The Owls would tie the game on a Shyquinn Dix jump shot and Griffin Guerrette would nail a three-pointer on the next possession to take a 7-4 lead with 17:16 left in the first half. The Owls would not look back from that point on as they never trailed the rest of the contest. Throughout the first half the Owls would gradually extend their lead to 53-37, sparked by three made three-pointers in a row by Quinn Mitchell.
UMPI would push their lead to 71-47 with 13:57 remaining in the game after a Guerrette free throw. The Hornets would battle back bringing the game within ten points, 82-72 with 4:23 remaining, but the Owls 6'4" forward Will Griffiths would prove too much for the Hornets in the paint down the stretch as Griffiths would score nine of his career-high 25 points.
