Presque Isle, ME - The UMPI Men's Basketball Team came out Saturday afternoon with great effort and energy in a first half that saw end to end action by both teams with the Eagles holding a slim 38 to 35 lead at the break. Te'Von Hines scored the game's 1st bucket on a corner 3 pointer that got the Home crowd going early. Hines followed that up with a fast break layup a minute later and shortly after, Shyquinn Dix dropped in 2 free throws to give the Owls an early 7 to 1 lead. Husson's Justin Martin would nail a 3 pointer before Wil Griffith was on the receiving end of a Griffin Guerette pass putting UMPI ahead 9 to 4. A 3 point jumper by Luke Petersen would give the Owls a 12 to 5 lead. At the 12:21 mark of the 1st half, Husson's Justin Martin would finish at the rim and knott the game at 14 apiece. The game saw several lead changes until the Eagle's Martin connected on a 3 point shot beyond the arc with 3 seconds remaining to send Husson University into the lockeroom with a 38 to 35 advantage.
The 2nd half remained tight and a hard Luke Petersen drive to the basket and score would give UMPI a 50 to 48 lead with 13:54 left to play. After two Justice Kendall foul shots, Husson would also follow with back to back layups by Justin Thompson and Brett Cunningham to move back ahead 54 to 50. The Owls Te'Von Hines would knock down a jumper at the 9:36 mark to bring UMPI back to within 4 points 60 to 56. The Eagles would stretch the lead to 8 points and keep that margin over the next 3 minutes and then up their lead to 10 on a Kyanti Blyden free throw. UMPI would continue to battle but could not cut into the lead enough down the stretch and Husson was able to seal an 81 to 68 victory.
