Presque Isle, ME – The Husson Eagles improve to 7-5 overall and 3-0 in North Atlantic Conference play with a convincing 113-68 win over the University of Maine at Presque Isle. UMPI falls to 6-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
Husson jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead with DJ Bussey starting off the offensive attack with a three-pointer followed by five points from senior forward Justin Martin on a baseline jumper and a three-point shot. The Owls would answer with a 7-2 run to cut the deficient to three, 10-7 with 14:55 left in the first half. The Eagles would go on to score 55 points in the first half while holding UMPI to only 24.
The Eagles had six players in double figures and 12 players found the scoring column. Leading the way was Martin who scored 22 points on 9-11 shooting from the field and went 4-5 from beyond the arc while also grabbing ten rebounds and dishing out three assists. Kyanti Blyden and Bruce St. Peter both scored 13 points, while Brett Cunningham and Justice Kendall each scored 12 points, and Dylan Angel chipped in with 11 points.
Leading the way for the Owls was Shyquinn Dix (So, Stamford, CT) who scored 24 points, grabbed five rebounds, and had three steals. Wilburn Griffiths (Jr, Queens, NY), Te'Von Hines (Jr, Woodbridge, VA), and Quinn Mitchell (Sr, Meriden, CT) all chipped in with ten points.
The Eagles and Owls are back in action in a rematch tomorrow at 1:00 PM at Wieden Gymnasium on the UMPI campus.
