Presque Isle, ME - The University of Maine at Presque Isle Men's Basketball Team got out to an early lead over Unity College and sustained a double digit point margin throughout most of the contest, winning at home over the Rams 93 to 69. The Owls improved their record to (4-5) on the season and Unity fallls to (2-6).
UMPI got double digit scoring from 4 of their 5 starters and a balanced attack overall with 10 players getting into the scoring column on the afternoon. Te'Von Hines (Jr. Woodbrige, VA) scored 9 first half points, Shyquinn Dix 8 points, while DeAndre Duncombe and Jahvion Lockridge added 6 points apiece as the Owls moved out to a 40 to 29 lead at the intermission.
Hines continued to be an offensive factor scoring 13 second half points and Shyquinn Dix (So. Stamford, CT) added 9 more points to help the Owls extend their lead. UMaine-Presque Isle opened up as much as a 24 point lead a number times in the 2nd half before Unity would make several mini runs to cut the margin back to a 12 point differential. Much of the Rams success had to do with the hot shooting of senior guard Hunter Engel who scored 23 points in the 2nd half alone on a variety of shots. Engel finished with a game high 35 points for Unity.
Hines finished the game with a team-high 22 points while Dix added 17 and dished out 5 assists. Both Deandre Duncombe (So. Port St. Lucie, FL) and Jahvion Lockridge netted 12 points for the Owls. KJ Minter (Fr. Elkton, MD) led UMPI with 11 rebounds and Lockridge pulled down 7 boards helping the Owls to the 93 to 69 final. Dan Suehiro scored 10 points in the loss for the Rams.
