Presque Isle, ME – Sophomore guard Shyquinn Dix (Stamford, CT) was named to the weekly Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writer's Association Honor Roll for his play last weekend in the Owls first ever North Atlantic Conference games against the University of Maine at Farmington. Dix would average 18.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists on the week.
On Friday, Dix scored 22 points, grabbed eight rebounds, dished out two assists, and had one block. On the night Dix went 5-12 from the field, 4-8 from three, and a perfect 8-8 from the line. The Owls found themselves down by 19 points with only 7:45 to go and Dix helped lead a comeback that just fell short as the UMPI pulled with six points after a Dix three pointer with 1:24 left in the game. However, the Beavers would ice the game from the free throw line going on to win 84-74.
On Saturday, Dix had another solid performance scoring 14 points, grabbing five rebounds, and recording two assists. Once again Dix would help lead a late game comeback that would just come up short. UMPI would find themselves down 63-46 with 11:28 remaining in the game and over the next ten minutes the Owls would go on a 28-13 run pulling the game within two, 76-74 with a minute to go. The Owls could not finish the comeback as the Beavers once again went perfect from the line in the final minute to secure the 80-74 win.
