Waterville, ME - The UMPI Owls Men's Basketball Team was clicking early on the offensive end in their ballgame with the University of Southern Maine before the Huskies went on a quick run late in the opening half to build a double-digit lead 40 to 27 at the break.
Me-Presque Isle (2-2) battled evenly with USM (2-0) throughout the first half until that late 1st half run in a game played at Wadsworth Gymnasium on the Campus of Colby College..
After the halftime intermission, the Huskies opened up the lead and kept it around a 20 point differential as the Owls struggled both offensively and defensively in the final 20 minutes of play. DeAndre Duncombe (So. Port St. Lucie, FL) was the leading scorer for UMPI with 13 points and Eric Anthony (Jr. Baltimore, MD) added 10 points. Guard Quinn Mitchell (Sr. Meriden, CT) topped the Owls on the glass with 8 rebounds and Wilburn Griffiths (Jr. Queens, NY) scored 8 points and pulled down 6 boards. The Owls hurt themselves again today with a total of 26 turnovers for the game.
USM was paced by Jayvon Pitts-Young and Christian McCue with 16 points each. Grayson Waterman added 12 points and 4 assists for the Huskies and Keenan Hendricks scored 11.
