Guerrette Earns MMBCWA Honor Roll


Sophomore guard DeAndre Duncombe (Port St. Lucie, FL) was named North Atlantic Conference Player of the Week and Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writer's Association (MMBCWA) player of the week for his stellar play in the opening weekend for the Owls at the Charlie Ryan Classic at Thomas College.

Duncombe led the Owls to a 2-0 weekend averaging 22.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.  Duncombe scored 22 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and went 5-7 from beyond the arc on Friday as UMPI defeated Norwich University 79-57.  Saturday, Duncombe recorded his first collegiate double double scoring 23 points and ten rebounds.  He would also dish out four assists as the Owls flew by the University of Maine Augusta 87-77 to improve to 2-0 on the season.

First year guard Griffin Guerrette (Presque Isle, ME) had a great start to his career for UMPI averaging 16.0 points and going 8-17 from three.  Guerrette's play helped the Owls to a 2-0 start and landed him on the MMBCWA Honor Roll.

The Owls are back in action on Friday and Saturday at the Colby Classic at Colby College in Waterville, ME.  UMPI takes on Colby on Friday at 7:00 PM and USM at 3:00 PM on Saturday.
