Collins, Chacho and Duncombe Recieve All-State Honors

PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association announced the Men's Basketball State honors this afternoon, recognizing three UMPI Owls.  Senior Kevin Collins (Fort Washington, MD) was named to the Second Team All-State.  Senior Anthony Chacho (Watertown, CT) was named to the All-Defensive Team.  While freshman guard DeAndre Duncombe (Port St. Lucie, FL) was named to the All-Rookie Team.

Collins finishes his four-year career at UMPI as one of the program's leading scorers with 1,262 career points.  The senior guard averaged 14.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.4 assists, with a 1.6 assist to turnover ratio.  In the state of Maine, Collins finished 8th in points per game, tied for 8th in steals, 5th in minutes (32.2 minutes per game), and tied for 9th in assist to turnover ratio.  Collins led the ACAA in total points scored this season with 403.  He also was in the top 10 in the ACAA in assists, steals, field goals, three-point field goals, free throws, and minutes.  His year was highlighted with scoring his 1,000th point in an 80-72 win over Fisher College where Collins finished the game with 28 points.  Collins was also named to the ACAA All-Conference First Team and the ACAA All-Tournament team.

In his senior year, Chacho led the state of Maine in minutes, averaging 35.0 minutes per game in all 27 games, logging in nearly 1,000 minutes.  He averaged 9.9 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.6 steals.  Chacho finished in the top ten in multiple categories across the state of Maine; tied for 3rd in steals, 4th in assist to turnover ratio, with a 2.2 average, tied for 8th in assists, and 8th in rebounds.  The senior guard was in the top 10 in the ACAA conference in nearly every offense and defense category.  His lock down defense, excellent rebounding, and all-out hustle was well recognized throughout the state as every night he had the assignment of guarding the other team's best offensive perimeter player.  Chacho's year was highlighted when he received ACAA Player of the Week on February 13th, leading the Owls to an 85-82 win over the College of St. Joseph's (VT), scoring 22 points, 14 rebounds, seven assists, while committing zero turnovers.  Chacho was also named ACAA Defensive Player of the Year and selected to the ACAA All-Conference First Team this past week.

Duncombe had a great first year for the Owls averaging 13.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. Finishing 4th in minutes per game (1st amongst freshman), and tied for 3rd in assists in the state of Maine. Duncombe found himself in the ACAA top 10 in points, 3-point field goal percentage, assists, minutes and was amongst the top of all those categories for first year players.  Duncombe's year was highlighted when he received ACAA Player of the Week on January 2nd when he helped lead UMPI to a win over Connecticut College scoring 19 points, grabbing four rebounds, and dishing out three assists.  Last week Duncombe was named Rookie of the Year in the ACAA Conference.
