Owls Clipped by Bengals

PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle (10-12) would fall behind the University of Maine at Fort Kent Bengals (17-6) late in the first half and were never able to make up ground as they would fall by a final score of 82-64.

The Bengals would never trail, but the two teams remained tight in the opening minutes of Wednesday's matchup.  With 10:40 remaining in the first half, Anthony Chacho's (SR, Watertown, CT) three-pointer would pull UMPI to within two.  That's when the Bengals were able to pull away, as the UMPI offense would hit a snag.  A 16-3 run would open up a gap for UMFK.  The Owls would find their offensive rhythm again, but would go to the locker room at half down 40-26.

The Owls would chip away in the second half, and eventually close to within 11 points with 13:36 remaining, but that would be as close as UMPI could get.  The Bengals would trigger a 16-3 run, and keep their hosts at bay for the rest of the matchup.  UMFK would go away with the 18-point victory.

Deandre Duncombe (Fr, Port St. Lucie, FL) led the Owls with 16 points, and seven rebounds.  Maurice Harris (SR, Miami, FL) added 15 points and six rebounds.  Chacho would score 14 pionts and grab six rebounds, while Wilburn Griffiths (SO, Queens, NY) would add ten points.

UMFK's Jonathon Caldwell (JR, Oakland, CA) led all scorers with 22 points.  Teammate Anthony Knight (SR, San Francisco, CA) would add 21 points, seven rebounds, and six steals.  Bobby Syvanthong (SR, Richmond, CA) would end the game with 17 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists.

The Owls will host the Unity College Rams on Saturday afternoon.  That game is scheduled for 3 pm.
