Owls Can't Hold on to First Half Lead

CANTON, NY – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls (7-9) were not able to withstand a second half charge from the SUNY Canton Roos (5-12) and would fall by a score of 89-74.

The Owls would trail early, as the Roos would jump out to a seven point lead.  A 19-0 run by UMPI late in the half would swing the momentum in the favor of the visiting team, and the Owls would ride it to a 13-point lead at the break.  UMPI would shoot the ball well in the half, hitting seven of 12 from three-point and 18 of 34 overall (52.9%).

The lead would not last long for the Owls, as a 14-2 run by the Roos to kick off the second half would give SUNY Canton the lead back with just under 16 minutes left to play.  The Owls would briefly reclaim the lead, only to surrender another run to the Roos, this time SUNY Canton would outscore their guests 12-4 in a period of three minutes.  The Owls would pull to within six points with just under eight minutes to play, but that was as close as they would get, as the Roos would build a comfortable lead shortly after that.  They would finish off the 15-piont victory.

SUNY Canton would end with six players scoring in double digits, with Jordan Stewart (JR, Brooklyn, NY) leading the way with 15 points and seven rebounds.  The Owls got a strong performance from Deandre Duncombe (FR, Port St. Lucie, FL) who would tally 24 points.  Kim Collins (SR, Fort Washington, MD) would record a double-double, scoring ten points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

These two teams will face off again on Saturday afternoon at 1 pm.
