PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls (6-6) were able to get back to a .500 winning percentage on the season, as they would take a 76-58 win over the University of New Brunswick – St. John Seawolves (2-5) on Saturday night.
The Seawolves would start off hot, and build a six point lead early in the matchup. A 14-2 run by the Owls would change the momentum of the game, giving UMPI a lead they would never surrender. The host team would lead by as much as 12 in the first half, before UNB St. John would cut into it and go to the locker room down 44-38. The Owls would shoot 50% from the floor in that first half, including hitting six shots from behind the three-point arc.
UMPI would cool off some in the second half, but their defense would stifle the Seawolves' attack. The visitors would shoot just 28.6% in the second half, while turning the ball over ten times. The Owls would finally pull away late, as they would build a 20-point lead with three and a half minutes left to play. UMPI would get 16 points off of turnovers, and use their size and ability to get to the rim for 42 points in the paint on the evening.
