CHESTNUT HILL, MA – In a rematch from the opening game of the season, the Pine Manor Gators (5-4) would exact revenge over the University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls (3-5) with a 77-69 victory on Saturday afternoon.
Despite it being a close game throughout, the Gators would never trail in the matchup, building their biggest lead of 13 with just over five minutes remaining in the first half. UMPI would respond, with Luke Petersen (FR, Perth Australia) and Kevin Collins (SR, Fort Washington, MD) connecting on three-point attempts to cut that lead down. Despite the solid shooting performance in the first half, the Owls would find themselves down ten at intermission.
UMPI would start the second half on a 10-2 run that would close the gap and put pressure on their hosts. The Gators would cling to a slim lead for the majority of the second half, but with six minutes remaining in the game Anthony Chacho (SR, Watertown, CT) would drain a three-point attempt, tying the game at 59. Though Pine Manor would quickly reclaim their lead, the Owls would find themselves within striking distance with just a minute left to play. With a slim three-point advantage, the Gators would secure a defensive stop, forcing the Owls to extend the game and put their hosts on the charity stripe. Pine Manor would be able to put the game away on the free throw line, claiming the eight-point victory.
Collins would lead all scorers with 23 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Chacho would net 17 points and collect five rebounds. Petersen ended the game with ten points off the bench.
