Big Second Half Propels Colby Over the Owls

WATERVILLE, ME – In a tale of two halves, the University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls (2-2) would hold a three-point lead at half, but eventually fall to the Colby College Mules (4-0) by a score of 82-60.

The Owls would hold the lead throughout the first half.  UMPI would shoot 42.9% from the floor and hit six out of twelve attempts from behind the three-point arc.  The Owls would stay hot to start the second half, and build their biggest lead of nine with 18 minutes left to play.  The fortunes would begin to change for the visitors at that point, as the Owls would convert on just one field goal attempt over the next eight minutes of play, allowing Colby to go on a 24-4 run that would give them the lead for good.

The Mules would take advantage of the Owls second half shooting woes and stretch out a big lead, eventually winning by a 22-point margin.  UMPI would shoot just 30.4% in the second half, and only hit one of their attempted three-point attempts.  Meanwhile, the tournament hosts would catch fire in the second half, converting of 55.6% of their shots, which included going five of 12 from behind the arc.  The Owls would give up 15 offensive rebounds while the Mules would win the overall rebounding battle 49-40.

Sam Jefferson (SO, Newton, MA) would lead all scorers with 22 points.

For the Owls it was Maurice Harris (SR, Miami, FL) setting the pace, scoring 14 points and grabbing nine rebounds.  Deandre Duncombe (FR, Port St. Lucie, FL) would score 13 points and collect eight rebounds, while Kevin Collins (SR, Fort Washington, MD) would add 11 points.

The Owls will play on Sunday at 1 pm against Montclair State.
