Owls Go Cold Late, Polar Bears Pounce

BRUNSWICK, ME – Late game shooting woes would haunt the University of Maine at Presque Isle Men's Basketball team (7-8) as they would fall at Bowdoin (8-6) by a score of 70-48.

The two teams would battle back and forth for much of the game.  The Owls would hit 52% from the floor in the first half including five of 14 from the three-point line.  The Polar Bears would hit seven of their 16 three-point attempts to match UMPI, sending the game to the locker tied at 31 at the half.  The two teams would continue to match each other in the second half as the contest would feature seven ties and seven lead changes.  Maurice Harris (JR, Miami, FL) would put the Owls ahead with a layup with just over 12 minutes remaining, and Derek Healy (SR, Hanover, MA) would follow that with two free throws to give the visitors a three-point lead.  Unfortunately for the Owls being shorthanded would catch up to them, as the deeper Bowdoin team was able to continue their pace.  Harris' layup would be the last field goal for the Owls in the game, allowing the Polar Bears to run away with the decision.  UMPI would shoot 22.7% from the floor in the second half, while Bowdoin would finish strong, shooting 53.6% in the second half.

Kim Collins (SR, Oxon Hill, MD) would lead all scorers with 17.  Kevin Collins (JR, Oxon Hills, MD) would add 14 points and four assists.  David Reynolds (FR, Raleigh, NC) would lead the Polar Bears with 16 points and five rebounds.

The Owls go on the road on Wednesday to face Valley Forge in Phoenixville, PA.  That game will tip at 7 PM.
