The Maine-Presque Isle Men's Basketball Team has released its schedule for 2016-17, which will feature a game in the Cross Insurance Center against an NCAA Division I opponent, the University of Maine.
The contest against the Black Bears will be Saturday, November 26, and highlights a continued push on behalf of the Owls to increase the strength of schedule.
UMPI will make another trip to the Orono area when the men plan Husson University in Bangor November 19. The Owls continue the theme of facing highly-regarded institutions in Maine when they host Colby College Wednesday, December 7, and travel to Bowdoin College Monday, January 9.
Other new opponents from last season include an opener at Johnson State College Tuesday, November 15; Alfred State University Saturday, January 7; University of Valley Forge Wednesday, January 11; SUNY-Delhi Saturday, January 14; Pratt Institute Friday, February 3; and New England College Tuesday, February 14.
The Owls will play in two tournaments in 2016-17. The Maine Maritime Classic will take place December 30-31 and will feature opponents from Curry College and SUNY-Maritime. UMPI will once again participate in the Can/AM Shootout, which will be hosted by the University of New Brunswick-St. John this year.
Head Coach Mike Holmes said, "My goal is to continue to make progress with the program. The way to do that is to keep getting better and measuring ourselves against the best opponents we can find. Tough teams tend to illustrate the aspects in which you are lacking."
