Berkeley Takes Down Owls, Wins 12th Straight

NEW YORK, NY – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls (6-7) couldn't slow down the steaking Berkeley College Knights (12-1), losing on the road 78-57.

The Knights would come out firing on all cylinders and jump out to an early 11-2 lead.  Despite holding a nine point lead on several occasions in the first half, the Knights could not hold off the steady attack from their visitors.  The Owls would shoot 47.8% from the floor to tie the game late in the first half, and only find themselves down three going in the break.

After trading baskets to start the second half, Berkeley would go on a 15 point run to put some distance in between the two teams.  From that point on the game was never closer than an 11 point span, as the Knights would shoot 50% from the floor in the second half, including five of 11 from behind the arc.  Eleven Berkeley steals and 17 Owl turnovers would doom UMPI, as they would lose by 21.

Massiah Merritt (JR, Brooklyn, NY) would lead all scorers with 19 points, and would add nine assists and eight steals to lead the Knights in victory.  Senior Keenan Langston (Brooklyn, NY) would achieve a personal milestone as his 15 points put him over 1,000 points in his career.  Stephon Jennings (JR, New York, NY) would finish with a double-double, scoring 15 points and collecting 15 rebounds.

For the Owls Chase Vicaire (SR, Mattawamkeag, ME) would pace the team, scoring 12 points and grabbing seven rebounds.  Brandon McGill (JR, Hamilton, NJ) would add ten points.

The Owls continue on the road as they travel to Buffalo, NY for a Sunday afternoon matchup with Villa Maria College.  That game is scheduled to tip-off at 4 PM.
