Athletics Announces Partnership with WUPI

PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Athletic Department and the campus radio station, 92.1 WUPI, have decided to partner up to bring athletics to the airways.

In addition to webcasting home games, Sports Information Director Mike Pankow hopes the addition of the radio station helps reach even more fans that may not be able to make it to those games.  "Whether it's someone in the community, or a student that is studying in their room, whatever reason they can't make it to Wieden to see the game, they should be able to keep up with what's going on, and this will make it easier for them to do so," said Pankow.

New station manager Katherine Waldron jumped at the opportunity to work with athletics.  "WUPI is looking forward to partnering with athletics," she said.  "We're excited to see where this venture will take our radio station."

"Katherine has been great to work with so far," said Pankow.  "For having just taken over as the station manager and learning on the fly, she is doing a fantastic job.  I look forward to working with her more."

Besides live basketball games, WUPI will also air a weekly sports talk radio show.  Pankow, junior basketball player Nick Lenhard, and senior baseball player Adam Begos will host.  The show, slated to air on Wednesdays at 1:30, will review the sporting events from the previous week, look ahead to the upcoming schedule, and analyze all athletics at UMPI.  The crew may also cover other local sporting events and national news as well.  The crew will look forward to having weekly guests in the booth with them to get an inside look at athletics here at UMPI.  "The three of us have had a fun time coming up with different segments and what we want to do with the show," Pankow stated.  "I think it will be a lot of fun, a great way to connect athletics with the community, and highlight the hard work that these young men and women put into their classwork and their athletics."

The first show will air this Wednesday, October 28th at 1:30.  Guests have not been announced at this time.  All shows will be archived under the "Multimedia" tab on the athletics website,
